The Department of Agriculture, Western Cape Government has an opportunity for a suitably qualified and competent individual to oversee the rendering of services in the agricultural and agribusiness sector in the following areas: Macroeconomics /policy analysis/modeling, trade analysis, resource economics and rural development economics.

Requirements :

  • Grade 12 plus a 4-year bachelor’s degree/B-Tech (NQF level 7 in Agriculture/Extension/Crop/Animal or relevant qualification) as recognized by SAQA. 0-2 years’ experience. Must be registered with SACNASP or relevant professional council. Must be in possession of a valid drivers’ license. COMPETENCIES: Knowledge and experience in agricultural extension. An understanding of Agricultural development, coordination and facilitation with other developmental stakeholders. Must have good computer skills, writing and reporting skills, project management, presentation, planning, organizing, facilitation, conflict management and communication skills. Knowledge of extension methodology.

Duties :

  • To provide scientific, technical and practical information to the farmers in order to maximise their ability to produce in different commodities with focus on animal or crop production. The agricultural officer will work with beneficiary groups (farmers), facilitating their development as a group or individuals, assisting them to develop their capacity and become self-sufficient through agricultural production. Contribute to the implementation of extension and advisory services programme. Provision of training to farmers (accredited and non-accredited). Participate in the development of farmers through CASP and Ilima/Letsema Programmes. Facilitation and coordination with other stakeholders (internal and external). Contribute to the good management of the directorate
